Cordovas - Back to Life
PRE-ORDER / Ships in January
Cordovas are an Americana rock band out of Nashville whose sound, equal parts soulful harmony, poetic craft, and cosmic improvisation, has long earned comparisons to The Band, Grateful Dead, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. But with their fifth studio album, Back to Life (out January 30, 2026, on Yep Roc Records), the group sharpens the edges of its identity: road-tested, deeply traditional in the ways that matter, and determined to be respected on its own terms.

With Back to Life, Cordovas are also turning their focus toward something new: building a business framework that matches the artistry they’ve been cultivating for over a decade. After years of keeping their heads down, writing, touring, and perfecting their sound, the band feels this is the record that can propel them into the space they’ve always deserved to occupy. They’ve worked harder than ever, not only on the songs themselves but on the structure around them, bringing the same discipline and fire they apply to their music into the way they release it. The result is an album that shows the full breadth of their talents while positioning the band for a future that finally mirrors their ambition.

Through it all, Cordovas remain a band defined by integrity and a hunger for success. They’re traditionalists in the sense that they care about songs, about craft, about doing the work. They’ve taken the long road, built their own world, and now, with Back to Life, they’re stepping forward with their most focused and fully realized music yet.

The Rose Of Aces
Released on August 11, 2023 (ATO Records)

The story of Cordovas is one of rock’n’roll seekers, hammering away in search of not only their ideal freewheeling sound, but also for some greater truth about the human experience. The band has long cited influences like the Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead, and the Band. And while Cordovas can certainly jam, they’ve also been known to tap into the more songwriting-oriented side of those forebears. From “Fallen Angels of Rock ‘n’ Roll” onward, you can hear the band honing their craft across The Rose Of Aces.

DESTINY HOTEL

Released on October 16, 2020 (ATO Records)

Picture
Cordovas’ album Destiny Hotel, via ATO Records, is a work of wild poetry and wide-eyed abandon, set to a glorious collision of folk and country and groove-heavy rock-and-roll. In a major creative milestone for the Tennessee-based band, the album harnesses the freewheeling energy of their live show more fully than ever, all while lifting their songwriting to a whole new level of sophistication. The result is a batch of songs that ruminate and rhapsodize with equal intensity, inviting endless celebration on the way to transcendence.

Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Rick Parker (Lord Huron, Beck), Destiny Hotel expands on the harmony-soaked roots rock of That Santa Fe Channel, a 2018 release that earned abundant praise from outlets like Rolling Stone and NPR Music. Before heading to L.A., Cordovas spent over three months in their second homebase of Todos Santos (an artist community in Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula), sketching dozens of songs partly sparked from their voracious reading of authors like mythologist Joseph Campbell, poet/novelist Rainer Maria Rilke, and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle.

Rooted in triple-stacked harmonies, southern storytelling, and cosmic country twang Cordovas create their own version of American roots-rock with That Santa Fe Channel. NPR Music points out that "everyone in the East Nashville band Cordovas is a lead vocalist. The country-rock group is committed to the sound of brotherhood — a few voices sharing a feeling."

CORDOVAS
Released July 2, 2012 (1stMan Music), Rereleased 2015 (Rootsy Music)

Take one part Laurel Canyon - LA 1969, one part The Band - Woodstock 1971 and one part Grateful Dead - San Franscisco 1971. That is the classic and magic recipe of great rock music. It may sound simple, but we've seen so many bands try it and fail miserably. But don't despair - here's Cordovas! A Nashville based band that, with seemingly unlimited skill and feeling, manage to not only recreate, but also develop the this magnificent musical heritage. With a bunch of great songs and harmony vocals like it were the seventies, the self released debut album of Cordovas was released in 2012. They did one tour and sold the 1000 copies they printed right away. And then the band disappeared and left behind a bunch of fans that suddenly realized that their new favorite band probably didn't exist. About a year ago we picked up a rumor that Cordovas were back on the road and doing great. It turned out that the three year hiatus was exactly what the band leader and musical genius Joe Firstman needed to fulfill his vision of creating the best band in the world. This is a dream come true! Rootsy Music is proud to a rerelease of the amazing debut album on CD and vinyl (for the first time ever).
